This came in my mail today: Which made me think: "For Mammon is a jealous master, leaves no room for any other", from New Model Army's 'Drag it Down'.

It is widely accepted that smoking in enclosed public spaces is a disgrace, but rejecting a potential employee before reaching the doorstep, under the Law (company policy) of "we accept no applicants who are smokers" somewhat reminds me of something: Following, is the actual job ad over at Cyprus Recruiter website. For the Cyprus European Presidency, the advertising company Partners Y&R designed a logo that strikes a close resemblance to the one in the photo above. As you can see, the photo was taken from shutterstock , a royalty-free stock photo etc service. Partners Y&R responded under the postmodern ideology that nothing is original, and, any idea can pop simultaneously. In actuality, the 'inspiration' for the logo design, also appearing on the five mils coin was taken by an ancient Cyprus artifact that resembles a bird as a ship. Now all this may be true, yet, I have worked at Partners Y&R myself, and I dare admit that the majority (all) of it's advertising designs, highly depend upon aforementioned royalty-free websites. In my case, particularly, any original material produced and presented to the owners of the company, the high in-command, were rejected in favour of some pre-existing design on the web. Most of the days from last week were spent in Paphos, where freelance work came up for a company called Euroblinds. It includes taking photographs of their products as they are set up in several luxury houses all along Cyprus. The final outcome being an elegant catalogue showcasing their best projects. I've hardly ever seen such expensive paraphernalia in my life (automatic curtains? 3D television at the swimming pool?), let alone being inside the walls they adorn. One such house was built halfway inside a cliff, staring at the beautiful sea of Paphos. The cleaner told me it's used once a year for a month. My, I thought, how the crisis lies heavy on us all. In any case, it is a nice feeling getting off the screen for a while and doing some work that includes travelling. In between appointments, I take leisure in reading a book, have coffee and eat sandwiches made from home, and take photos of landscapes therefore fulfilling the requirements that make the whole experience bohemi...
