Most of the days from last week were spent in Paphos, where freelance work came up for a company called Euroblinds. It includes taking photographs of their products as they are set up in several luxury houses all along Cyprus. The final outcome being an elegant catalogue showcasing their best projects. I've hardly ever seen such expensive paraphernalia in my life (automatic curtains? 3D television at the swimming pool?), let alone being inside the walls they adorn. One such house was built halfway inside a cliff, staring at the beautiful sea of Paphos. The cleaner told me it's used once a year for a month. My, I thought, how the crisis lies heavy on us all. In any case, it is a nice feeling getting off the screen for a while and doing some work that includes travelling. In between appointments, I take leisure in reading a book, have coffee and eat sandwiches made from home, and take photos of landscapes therefore fulfilling the requirements that make the whole experience bohemi...

There are periods where everyone wants everything now, and this is one of them. In some cases there is also lack of honesty - simply being straightforward. Some people, and I imagine they belong to the aforementioned class, go through these phases with ease. They stroll right through. And others, tend to disappear; even briefly, even if they are liable to deliver written, cover story material. I envy those who manage to pull the trick and never be found and would like to ask them how - if ever I got the chance *sigh*. Just a reminder that 1-2-3-4, an art gig at Fabrica Gallery in Brighton, is taking place this Friday (18th) at 7pm. Featuring "five artists who use music performance as an integral component of their practice". The artists are former Turner prize winner Martin Creed, the Apathy Band, the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim aka David Blandy, the Coolness, and Plastique Fantastique. A discussion on the subject of interdisciplinary practice (music and visual art) will take place on Thursday 28th January 2010 at the Sallis Benney Theater, University of Brighton. The discussion will include some of the performing artists from the gig. The event is selling out rather quickly so be sure to book your tickets quickly by visiting this website . Daphne 's interactive triptych on Mysticism, combining alchemical drawings and ideas into a very successful collage. The interactive files, being quite large cannot be found online. Instead we have uploaded them as animations.

When an abstract idea such as art is placed under the microscope of language it becomes something else. Much like the western empirical approach of the laboratory, which paradoxically is and is not the experience. That is, to observe an element of nature outside its nature, offers only part of the experience. Surely, when a piece of art is scrutinized to criticism and analyses, it shifts into a different realm. In the case of my work, I had people sharing their opinion on art, its meaning and purpose. Some of the answers were contradictory, in battle with someone elses opinion. In other cases, there was a common ground. My interest is how, through a common idea, art in this case, so many different opinions arise. Although perceptions differ, all are speaking on a single theme. Imagine we are looking at a diamond. But we are standing opposite one another. Y...

The following animation was made in collaboration with Daphne . The brief for her art direction project asked to create an animation for promoting the reading of literature. Daphne drew and all the elements in Illustrator and Photoshop while I did the animation in After Effects.

Collaborative work between Daphne and I. These three interactive pieces relate to the theories of archetypes by Carl Jung. Although there are many, we picked the shadow, the mother and the anima. It is a humorous approach and we hope that they're seen in that way. These small pieces will hopefully drive one to find out more about Jung's theories which personally I find very interesting and glaring of truth (even though placed on the side and considered fairly outdated by mainstream psychology). For the Design Against Fur International Animation Competition (that's a large name, makes it sound important), Daphne and I created the following. The drawings were made in illustrator then animated in After Effects. Music is done by me, apart from the silly scream, taken from some sample library of the BBC. The regulations said to upload the video as a video response on YouTube and I must admit the participants in the competition are very few. But I suppose no one needs an animation to advertise against the wearing of fur when one has got all those aesthetically pleasing Peta ads satisfying so much the male gaze.
