The "Spider's Christ" has awakened in me disturbing feelings and I'm not sure why. Feelings closely related to one's childhood where distorted memories can bring a sense of disgust into the surface. Perhaps the only way I can correctly describe it, is to imagine you are someone with a death fear/obsession and you are viewing for the first time the fox decomposing video. Or taking peaks of the Larvai infesting a female breast picture (prank) over and over again. That sums it up.

You are asked about your family, relatives, residence. You answer, they reply in remembrance. You feel at ease. They don't know your person. They know your past, fluently. Unlike elsewhere there are almost no pauses in discussion but an instant firing of questions. Here pretentious etiquette does not apply - you have already thought about it, no reason not to ask. They shake your hand and smile and you feel their smile is true. As the hands untangle from one another you make the calculations, you compare: hundreds of handshakes, smiles, nods. The aforementioned thought is valid. The workers are split into teams and you help your group (consisting of two more people) to mount the truck with the necessary tools. Free translation: the soldiers are saying how much they love doing the exercises, how they didn't know they had these capabilities, "you should have spirit and stamina" blablabla. It ends with the colonel saying "i am your leader". Great sheep spirit I say. Two years and two months, I had to endure crap like this. And for what purpose exactly?
Just a reminder that 1-2-3-4, an art gig at Fabrica Gallery in Brighton, is taking place this Friday (18th) at 7pm. Featuring "five artists who use music performance as an integral component of their practice". The artists are former Turner prize winner Martin Creed, the Apathy Band, the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim aka David Blandy, the Coolness, and Plastique Fantastique. A discussion on the subject of interdisciplinary practice (music and visual art) will take place on Thursday 28th January 2010 at the Sallis Benney Theater, University of Brighton. The discussion will include some of the performing artists from the gig. The event is selling out rather quickly so be sure to book your tickets quickly by visiting this website . Or try getting them from Grey Area , Fabrica , or Resident . A limited print booklet of the event will also be available at the night of the event, designed by yours truly.
