"A new system has been created to keep the public informed about the level of threat to the UK from terrorism. The system also helps the police and other law enforcement agencies determine how they should respond to, and prepare for a terrorist incident.

The threat levels are:

  • critical - an attack is expected imminently
  • severe - an attack is highly likely
  • substantial - an attack is a strong possibility
  • moderate - an attack is possible but not likely
  • low - an attack is unlikely

The current terrorism threat level is Severe.

The threat level is Severe. Our message is for people to be alert but not alarmed."

Of the total 1228 arrested:
  • 132 charged with terrorism legislation offences only
  • 109 charged with terrorism legislation offences and other criminal offences
  • 195 charged under other legislation including murder, grievous bodily harm, firearms, explosives offences, fraud, false documents
  • 76 handed over to immigration authorities
  • 15 on police bail awaiting charging decisions
  • 1 warrant issued for arrest
  • 12 cautioned
  • 1 dealt with under youth offending procedures
  • 11 dealt with under mental health legislation
  • 4 transferred to Police Service of Northern Ireland custody
  • 2 remanded in custody awaiting extradition proceedings
  • 669 released without charge
  • 1 awaiting further investigation

Just a reminder that 1-2-3-4, an art gig at Fabrica Gallery in Brighton, is taking place this Friday (18th) at 7pm. Featuring "five artists who use music performance as an integral component of their practice". The artists are former Turner prize winner Martin Creed, the Apathy Band, the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim aka David Blandy, the Coolness, and Plastique Fantastique. A discussion on the subject of interdisciplinary practice (music and visual art) will take place on Thursday 28th January 2010 at the Sallis Benney Theater, University of Brighton. The discussion will include some of the performing artists from the gig. The event is selling out rather quickly so be sure to book your tickets quickly by visiting this website .
